Day 20 of Foster Care Journey. It has been difficult. So difficult at times that I felt a disruption was imminent due to behavioral issues with the oldest. But tonight my heart was uplifted and I was reminded of why I do this.
Bedtime routine includes prayers, and if I forget, the youngest will always say, “Hey, you didn’t pray!” Sometimes he likes to pray. He says he likes short prayers and his are usually the same – “Thank you God for everything. Amen.” Tonight, he called me back when I started to leave the room, reminding me again. (Even though I had just prayed asking God to take the fear out of his mind and heart – but I guess he didn’t consider this a “bedtime” prayer). It is obviously important to him and something to which he was not acustomed. He asked me who should pray tonight and I asked if he wanted to do the honors. It went something like this. “Thank you God and Jesus for kids who don’t have daddies and kids who don’t have mommies and for dogs and flowers and trees and humans. Thank you for my bike and please make the ground flat so I can go fast. Amen. ………………………(Be still my heart!)
